It is hard to overstate how critical the upcoming elections are to the future of our nation. The political, economic, cultural, educational, and even spiritual decline we are experiencing are all affected by perverse leadership at the highest levels of our institutions.
As Concerned Women for America (CWA) continues its She Prays She Votes 2022 bus tour to get out the vote, a recent win against the Department of Justice's (DOJ) continued abuse of power against the radical left's political opponents, including Christian conservatives, reminds us of the stakes.
CWA joined an amicus brief with a wide range of organizations in a case where DOJ, "In a transparent and flagrant violation of the First Amendment," served a preposterous subpoena on a like-minded organization, Eagle Forum of Alabama (EFA), "with no legitimate purpose but instead to intimidate and chill the free speech, associational, and petitioning rights of an organization whose views are currently contrary to those of the United States Government."
This "transparent use of the civil litigation process to chill the speech and political organizing of those who hold views contrary to those of the United States and the Department of Justice" was spurred by EFA's successful support of a law prohibiting sex change operations for minors. Yes, that is all.
The Biden Administration is so radical in their support of minors being able to enter life-altering sex change procedures that many regret years later that it will send DOJ after any organization who dares raise the reasonable concerns of parents to try to put an end to these misguided radical leftist policies. A minor is not old enough to get a tattoo on her own, they tell us, but she is fully capable of deciding to get a double mastectomy because she feels out of place.
The radical left not only practices and supports this madness, but they want to promote it with government funding, and, most importantly, they want to quash any dissent whatsoever. To the point that they will send the government's DOJ to make an example of anyone who dares make their voice heard to their elected representatives.
In this case, DOJ targeted EFA for its role in supporting Alabama's Vulnerable Child Compassion and Protection Act. The subpoena sought all internal communications from EFA about its advocacy for the bill going back to 2017. Think about it, DOJ was trying to enjoin the law to stop it from being enforced. The law was passed by legislators and signed by the governor. Yet DOJ's malicious, politically motivated actions reveal to us who they see as the true "enemies of democracy," as the Biden Administration is known for describing pro-life, pro-family conservatives (all "MAGA" to them). The real problem is you and me—concerned parents.
That is why CWA was proud to join in support of EFA to expose DOJ's real motivations here, "to intimidate and chill grassroots political organizing, not just of EFA but of any and all organizations that may try to organize and petition the government."
Thankfully, this week, a U.S. district judge officially quashed DOJ's subpoena, concluding, "Considering the relevance (or lack thereof) of the requested material, the burden of production, the nonparties' resources, and the Government's own conduct, the Court finds that the subpoenas exceed the scope of discovery."
This is a great victory for freedom involving the most fundamental of rights under our Constitution. But the court leaves the door open for DOJ to issue "a new subpoena that is far more narrowly tailored" if they want, virtually ensuring the issue will rise again, especially if those who have already so misused government power remain in power.
This is where we must make the connection with our elections. We must take ownership of the leadership we have. They are elected officials. We cannot continue to have the same level of engagement we have had in the past in electing our leaders and expect different results. To change course, we must change course. In other words, to stop American decline, we must stop and reconsider our part as citizens. We cannot give up. We must realize that, ultimately, we are all our nation's leaders— "we the people." We must fight for our children, our families, and our communities. We must vote.
