Defining Reality
The problem, from their perspective, is not that we are "religious" but that we assert an objective, transcendent reality. Nothing is more offensive to the spirit of this age.
Who defines what is? It's a strange question. Most people would struggle to even grasp the question at first. The point is reality. Who defines it? The Founding Fathers had a beautiful way of describing things that are "self-evident." All men are created equal. Says who?
Reality says—truth. But the truth is under assault in our day and age. The Founders embraced a Judeo-Christian worldview precisely because it best describes (helps explain) the reality of the human heart and experience. It is self-evident that babies are born male or female. We can observe it and know that it is true. When we look at Scripture, we get insight into that observable reality. "So God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." (Genesis 1:27)
Science, of course, confirms it, as science is based on scientific observations. Our biological makeup, physical, chemical, and psychological, bears witness to that reality. As scientific advancement gives us more information about DNA and XY chromosomes, we only gain more evidence of what is a well-established fact.
But from the beginning, the garden's serpent came to question what was. "Did God actually say?" was its attack then. It still is today. We must realize that this is the battle, in politics, the culture, the church, within your very soul! We either hold on to reality or succumb to the enemy's manipulations.
Redefining reality does not change it. A man is not a woman because he believes he is a woman. He does not become a woman if everyone else around him goes along with it. He and those going along with it are living a lie and lies will always conflict with reality. You may believe you are the man of steel, but you step in front of a bullet at your peril.
That is why President Biden's attempt to impose by force the idea that our sex is determined by our preferred, subjective personal gender identity must be met with the full force of our collective wills. The consequences are far-reaching. In the U.K., the National Health Service is shutting down its only child transgender clinic because it is "not safe" for children. Other countries are acknowledging the dangers of this lie, too.
And that is just one area of concern; there are many others. A new lawsuit has been filed because the Biden Administration's radicalism in this area is "punishing low-income children and threatening to take away their school lunches—simply because they attend Christian schools," which adhere to reality when it comes to sex.
Expect this sort of attack on religious freedom to intensify in the coming years. People of faith, Christians in particular (given their adherence to the Holy Scriptures), stand squarely against their dreamed redefined reality. For a redefined reality is nothing more than a lie. Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44). But God is a God of truth (Hebrews 6:18); Jesus is the Truth (John 14:6); the Holy Spirit is the "Spirit of truth" (John 14:17). You know on Who's side we stand.
Truth not only relates to "spiritual matters," as we tend to compartmentalize things. This week, the White House was hard at work redefining what is a recession. They've tasted this new power, given the media's quasi-religious devotion to Democrat leadership, and they are taking full advantage of it. Whether the changing narrative on the COVID vaccine or Hunter Biden's shady foreign dealings, the White House’s redefined “reality” is official reality as far as the media is concerned.
Therefore, expect the media, also, to escalate its attacks on those who stand for truth and, by extension, against lies, government-sponsored or otherwise. The problem, from their perspective, is not that we are "religious" but that we assert an objective, transcendent reality. Nothing is more offensive to the spirit of this age. They are serious about it. You could say they are religious about it.
And so, we arrive at the crux of the matter. It is a new religion they promote. An anti-truth religion. An anti-religion religion. An anti-Christian religion.
It is a truth we cannot escape. We must face it with all the humble boldness, love, and power of the cross. There is no other way.
